Beginnings & Endings

My son and daughter-in-law have them so I decided to start one. After all, I've been a professional writer since 1970. At the same time, most of the content will be about memories. Perhaps my children, grandchildren and maybe even my wife will understand a little more about me.

Circa 1979: My son John, age 3, who can already read, has become contaminated by my vile sense of humor. We are in the kitchen, going through the ordinary task of feeding him lunch. And out of his innocent mouth comes a PUN! I have no memory (thank God) of the actual pun. But he looks at me with a sense of pride, and a nice smile. He KNOWS he has made a pun. It is no accident and I am shocked. I look at him. He looks at me and reads my astonishment. His smile turns to an evil grin and I know he will forever be linked with those who cannot help themselves. It is an instant addiction and one we have shared ever since. I believe it comes with the Irish part of his heritage.

Somehow in the future, when the science fiction of years ago becomes real, and time travel is possible, I know he will name a son Justin. My apologies to Spider Robinson.
